What’s working…

Dave is getting right into the topic and right to his point much earlier than before, more consistently.

In the topics I heard over three different days (December 5, 6, and 8) Dave often had an excellent point to make, and more importantly he had unique Dave insight.  The line “sometimes good men have to do bad things to keep this country safe” is an excellent example of this.

There is a much better balance of politics and and broader issues, and in fact Dave does an excellent job of breaking down those broader topics into points that are very easy to understand.

What needs more attention…

Silent Tobin needs to actually be silent.  Dave does not need him 99% of the time and becomes a crutch and a distraction too quickly and too often.

Personal stories are dicey.  They are best when they show how the host relates to a topic so I can empathize.  Personal stories just as personal stories rarely work, and they are not a strength in the hours I listened to this time.

Recommendations…

1) No more Tobin.

2) Use personal stories…which Dave is good at telling…as part of his understanding or exemplifying a broader topic.  When he has done that in the past, talking his bride, his dad, his kids, it’s always been great.

3) Keep up the focus not jus on topics but points he wants to make.  Thats’ the real difference in what I have heard this last week and if it could become habit, he will be at a whole new level.
