What’s working…

When Dave is focused  the topic setups and his points are clear, fun, and more creative than before.  It feels like he’s having more fun doing the show

On the Friday before Halloween with bad weather he starts the hour mentioning they’d be on top of the weather forecast and slushy roads but then never mentions it again.  Excellent mention but it would be great to hear it mentioned at the start of each segment since it’s a main reason people listen to us.

Dave on Halloween was prepped and priceless.  Example below.

There was a near perfect mix of politics/not politics last week. Plus Dave did an excellent job on national politics as he talked about the CNBC debate and Paul Ryan becoming house speaker. Example below.

What needs some attention…

When Dave comes in unprepared and cold it really stands out.  He meanders for a few minutes or for the first segment until he finds his ground and then starts to take off once he’s in his zone.  He really has to think through his whole first segment before he starts the show.

Friday’s show with Darcy in studio was really hard to follow.  He sounded discombobulated and a little nervous (I would be too with Darcy in studio 🙂 ).  He was always talking only to the people in front of him and not the listener.  Two brutal examples below.  I think this was a a rare exception but it’s worth noting because 1) we are in a book.  2) apparently it was a weather day so we have lots of new and extra cume coming in and I want them to feel welcome and like the show is for them, not us. And 3) although this was exceptional Dave is going to find himself in this place again soon enough. He will now know to plan and prepare extra instead of less.

Opening the 4p hour with the  covenant house plug was too light. That is our highest cume hour. It should have been newsy in the open segment,  then the plug, then Tobin and scary movies leading into the Aces game.

There are way too many mentions of Tobin.  Using Tobin in a specific segment like ‘scariest movies we’ve seen’ is the right use of him.  Referring to him and distracting from a monologue is happening much too frequently.
