April 22, with the Governor and Posse in studio…

What worked…

Solid interview with the Governor & Friends.  Dave has good questions that appear to be well thought out.

Dave explains very well why he is not going to take calls, but how he intends to keep the Gov & Friends interview interactive nonetheless.

Dave does a very good job of talking oil revenues, oil-revenue replacement taxes, the dividend, and the budget without getting too wonky or in the weeds.  He keeps it fresh and clear for people who just want to know what the future of their dividend check is going to be.

In a segment comparing Trump to the many Batmen, there is a perfect instance of Tobin: he comes in just enough to help Dave keep straight who played what Batman, and what makes them different, before going on to compare Trump’s new consultants.

What needs some attention…

There is still not enough of Dave’s opinion first.  He sets up the topic of Trump;s transformation by actually asking us what we think.  We don’t care what we think.  We care what Dave thinks. Better to give his opinion and ask us to tell him he’s nuts.

When interviewing Fisher Hoffbeck, he asks a fabulous question that the guest has absolutely no idea how to answer.  So the guest dances and dances and Dave goes along with him.  A better way would be to just remain quiet or keep a response to a single word, so as the guest dances he realizes he’s alone and better get to the question.  There is no need to pressure the guest, and it was far from that kind of interview, but helping the guest waste time to be able to think distracted from the strength and focus of the question.
