What’s Working…

When Jack has thought through or knows his topic and where he wants to go, it’s fantastic.  First example below about the CIA.

It’s great when Jack mixes in personal experience.  I’d love to hear this more often.  Second example below about his daughter’s recital.

Jack’s unique points are always excellent (third example below, government and insurance).

.

What needs some attention…

When Jack has not quite thought through  topic, it’s hard to follow and is easily in one ear and out the other.  In the fourth example below about Australia, even though it’s breaking, it seems like he’s not quite sure where to go.

In the segment about the government and insurance companies, he mas a great point but I’d love to hear more…what are other countries doing?  What are the options?  He could have gone a little deeper.

Recommendations…

1) Jack does EVERYTHING necessary to do a huge show.  He just needs to do them more often: a unique, well thought out take.  Great explanation. Personal anecdotes to help illustrate his view on topics.

2) He may already do this but it’s worth mentioning: in prep, he should spend most of his time thinking about how to start and how to end, and then the rest of the time plus any producer time he gets to fill in the middle…facts, story, experience, music, sound, etc.  But he should take a few minutes to really think through starts and ends.  It would pick up his game considerably simply be increasing the rotation of “the good stuff”.

3) His main goals should be to make a listener say “wow, that’s really interesting, I hadn’t thought about it that way before” and make them laugh or smile.  Those two reactions will bring people back more frequently and will get them to tell others to listen.  And PPM will be listening…
