What’s working…

Teases are better than ever, and more specific than ever.

Nobody in this format has the authenticity and vulnerability that Greg does.  He brings a perspective to Orlando, Trump, guns, that few other hosts bring.  Maybe it could be prepped and planned a little more but it’s great that it’s there.

We are ‘leading with the lead’ in all major segments.  Topic rotation and selection is excellent.

What to work on from here…

Big, breaking, recent, and complicated stories have to be set up with facts/latest first, then opinion. You’re jumping into the opinion too quickly before setting or resetting all the facts.

Prep the personal sides.  As mentioned above few hosts can get personal…and just the right amount…like Greg, but it often feels like he wanders in to it, deep in a topic.  If it could be the topic itself…even teased perhaps, it would be stronger and stand out more in the show.   Like when a newspaper has OP-ED as a banner or tab.

Dan is like wikipedia…can we use this more?  Dan preps background and “fun facts” on specific topics for the next day?  As with Greg’s vulnerability, Dan often wanders into the facts, depending on the story.    If we could control this more Dan would be stronger and even more engaging.

Jessica has slowed down.  She does not have the sense of urgency (mixed with being very conversational) that she had maybe a year ago.  Aircheck for her?

Formatics: No one says the time across top and bottom hour news close/show opens!

Audio Examples…

01 Greg explaining gun violence very well.  Quintessential.  But’s it’s deep in a topic and has a ‘by the way’ feel to it…

WMBD 01 GD explain

02 Both Greg and Dan with facts, but Dan as Wikipedia.  It’s clear this is not prepped…

WMBD 02 GD gd prep dan wiki but wander in

03 Formatics and Topic A Setup.  From Julia to first topic, we are fast in but there is no time check and no reset of developing story main points…
