1. PROGRAM ANALYSIS

EX SUBTITLE 1

It’s great to have Dan back!   As you ease back in, I think it’s better for you to be more in reaction mode than trying to lead too many topics, or worry about “expert mode”.  All of that will come soon enough.  I want you to ease back in.

Here’s a great example of you sounding great in reax mode…

And by the way, this is the best of what you guys do.  No reading.  Just talking, sharing.  No one does this as good as you do…

EX SUBTITLE 2

Thank you for adding in a few stories before getting to the interview in the 8am hour.  It sounds MUCH better.  There is more “Greg and Dan” where there needs to be.  Here is a perfect example:

Your features are running too long.   The book of questions is 6 minutes.   The interview with the Dwight Yoakum was 13 minutes.    Way too long, both.  Even NPR, famous for long elements, is now about 80% 3 minutes, and 1` 4 minute piece once or twice per show.    In all my experience and research, 2.30 is the sweet spot.

This is why you need to reset every Couple of minutes;  this is four minutes in to your 13 minute interview, and it gets harder to catch up from here….

And in the  Book of questions, no reset, and 3 minutes in…

Also, I am starting to see in research for the first time that phone quality is a thing.  Maybe it’s because of all the zoom and teams and FaceTime, or the Spotify and YouTube and the quality of IG audio these days, and podcast, but universally people are saying that the now avoid phone quality.

And with that in mind, listen to this…13 minutes…

And by the way, this is why I am recommending that Dan just ease back in and be in “reaction mode”

2. RECOMMENDATIONS

9

Dan in reaction, thoughtful mode for the time being. Not leading stories, and not worrying about "expert" mode

9

No segment longer than 3, and 2.30 is even better.

9

Reset EVERYTHING longer than 2 minutes.

9

Keep it up with the stories before all the interviews, and add them before Book.
